Things that go Bump in the Night

There are often times or situations that snap me back into the reality that I am a single mom and that we are in this big house alone. Tonight was one of those nights. The days events were a bit shaky leaving me uncertain as to what the night would hold. I was sitting thinking of my post for tomorrow while watching Kendra on E! when out of no where my doorbell began to ring frantically.

I looked at the clock and wondered why anyone would be at my door at this time of night. I was visibly shaken and proceeded to my door with caution and looked out of my peephole. The only thing that I could see was a dark figure standing there, I had forgot to turn on the light and it was pitch black outside not to mention in this part of California the fog makes it hard to see just about anything. I was informed earlier today to steer clear of opening the door or answering certain phone calls so I heeded the warning and ran up my stairs to my 3 year olds room just waiting for him to leave.

Vaccinate or Face Jail...Say What!?

On Sunday I was watching Law and Order: SVU like I do every Sunday (as a side note this is by far my favorite show and I have been watching it for years and I mean like since season 1). Well if anyone watches it they always have a case that is usually ripped right from actual headlines. Well this particular episode was about a mother that refused to immunize her son and he caught the measles and spread it to a bunch of other children that were too young to get immunized. As the story unfolds we find out that one child died from catching the measles from this little boy. The mother of the little boy is brought to trial for endangering the health of other children. After all the courtroom drama the mom of the little boy walks free but that got me to thinking and here is my question to you…

If a child dies from a disease as a result of an unimmunized child passing it to them should the unimmunized child’s parent be held liable for the death of a the child that contracted the disease from their child due to their not wanting to immunize?

The Scariest Night of My Life: The Night Daylan went Missing

I never realized how much love I had for my son until I was faced with the thought of losing him. Last night we were at Target looking at Christmas decorations and getting Daylan some new clothes for the winter. Everything was going well Daylan was on his best behavior going so far as to push the basket for mommy. We packed the cart full of Christmas decorations all of which my little man picked out and off we went to pick out Daylan some new clothes.

We were in the children’s clothing section and I was looking through the clothes and asking Daylan what he liked and what he didn’t like and then it happened, I called out to him and there was no reply, he always replies. I began to panic it’s not like Daylan to not reply when I call him or to not be laughing or giggling, I heard nothing. It was silent and my son was gone. The first thing I could think of was just to start calling out his name as loud as I could as raced through the area that we were in but still no reply and no little footsteps running there was nothing just the random chatter of shoppers all calm happy when my son was missing.

Prop 19 California Polls

So normally I am not all into politics and all of that. But today is election day so it seems fitting that I should talk about the one thing that is firing everyone up especially here in California where I live. Prop 19! Do you know what Prop 19 is? Well Prop 19 if approved, will legalize various marijuana-related activities, allow local governments to regulate these activities, permit local governments to impose and collect marijuana-related fees and taxes, and authorize various criminal and civil penalties.

So my question to you all is how do you feel about that?

Graco Stroller Recall: 2 million Recalled

We are all moms here and so whenever I hear about something that could affect our little ones it is my duty to let you all know.

Graco has started recalling over 2 million of its larger strollers due to children slipping between the seat and the tray and becoming trapped. This hits close to home because I have one of these larger strollers and I don’t know how many times I had forgotten to buckle my son in and I would look just in time to see him slipping down. By the grace of God I caught him in time.

It has been reported that between 2003 and 2005 four children have died as a result of being trapped between the seat and the tray.

Time to Get a Gun

So that Miranda Lambert song just keeps playing in my head over and over again…

“Time to get a gun.
Thats what I've been thinking.
I could afford one,
if I did just a little less drinking.”

Yeah I listen to country. What can I say I am an Oklahoma girl born and raised. Anyway this has been laying really heavy on me lately. It seems that everyone around me keeps talking about how I need to get a gun to protect me and Daylan from the weirdo’s wandering around outside. I am really just not so sure that a gun is the right move for me. I know your saying “But Danielle your in the military”, yeah I know I am in the military but I am far from being in on a battlefield. I work a desk job and my biggest fear is if I get a paper cut while shuffling through all the papers on my desk.

I think that my biggest fear in getting a gun is that I will panic and end up forgetting how to shoot it. I don’t do very good with that kind of pressure, I am not even good and those shooting video games I always end up shooting the person that is on my team. Now give me a car and I can go Grand Theft Auto on someone but a gun just freaks me out.

What do you all think about having a gun in the house to defend yourself?

Are Teens Using the Internet to Get High?

If your reading the title and thing holy hell what is she talking about that just sound ridiculous well I said the exact same thing. I don't know how many of you have heard about this but it was a story ran on the local news in my home state of Oklahoma in a town called Mustang.

Apparently drug dealers are tempting teens with mp3's that will induce a euphoric state similar to marijuana, cocaine, opium and peyote. Through a set of headphones kids can find themselves feeling high with out any of the signs of drug use. The mp3's that the digital drug dealers are pedelling are a series of different sounds one so called track is called "The Gates of Hades". School official set out to warn parents of that there kids were being targeted to start what is being coined as "i-dosing".

The False Security of Living on a Military Base: Child Predators

child predators Pictures, Images and Photos

I try to write about relevant things with a bit of humor but this one is a pretty serious topic so no jokes here. As many of you know I am in the Coast Guard, so I actually work on a military base that has housing available to families. I personally choose not to live on base because I would rather the people I work with not know all of my business but besides that there is something I am noticing on the bases and military housing that I have seen.
