There are so many women out there in the world that rely so heavily on the men in their life for their entire well being. It is one thing to be a stay at home mom but it is another thing to be unaware of the finances in your own home. Even if you don’t leave the house everyday to go to work you need to still be aware of the money situation in your home. One too many women find themselves in a rock and a hard place when they find out all the money is gone and that they are in debt or there husband’s run off and leave them with nothing. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a stay at home mom but if you are going to be a good mom you have to prepare for the unexpected no matter how perfect we envision our lives being we have to be prepared if things don’t go as planned.
I have heard of so many women who wake up after 20 years of marriage to only find there husbands are running off with another woman or man and is leaving them and the kids with nothing. This puts women in a place of vulnerability especially if they have no skill or education in anything but support the kids after the man and his money have left. So you may be asking what can I do to ensure that me and the kids will always be alright.
First you want to be aware of the household finances check the balances look at the bank statements (ask questions if you have them)
Second create a family budget together this way you and your husband are well aware of how the money should be spent and where it should be spent (this may be a lot harder just because everyone has there on idea on what is important and how much money should go to what).
Third keep a little money on the side and stash it in your cookie jar. I can’t stress how important it is for you to be prepared for anything even if your husband doesn’t run off with his coworker, what if he loses his job or you all come on hard times you will be very thankful that you kept a little money on the side to support the family.
There are some excellent resources around that can help you on your quest to saving money:
