The False Security of Living on a Military Base: Child Predators

child predators Pictures, Images and Photos

I try to write about relevant things with a bit of humor but this one is a pretty serious topic so no jokes here. As many of you know I am in the Coast Guard, so I actually work on a military base that has housing available to families. I personally choose not to live on base because I would rather the people I work with not know all of my business but besides that there is something I am noticing on the bases and military housing that I have seen.

More and more people are allowing their children to just run free as if they don’t have a care in the world. Kids are running all over the place with no parents in sight. Parents seem to think that because they are on a base and everyone knows everybody nothing bad can happen, how sadly mistaken they are. I am not sure if parent realize predators come in many body types, races, and ranks. Just because you neighbor seems friendly doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have a stash of kiddie porn on his hard drive.

There aren’t a lot of public reports about the sex offenders that get discharged from the military for being child predators but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Being in the military and doing the job that I do there are a lot of things we find out thing that aren’t always public knowledge or base wide knowledge. The clear point that I am trying to make is that there are child predators in the military just because they aren’t registered sex offenders doesn’t mean they aren’t they may have just been lucky enough not to get caught yet.

Honestly I worked with someone that was discharged for soliciting young girls on the internet so please parents be aware and keep your children safe. They are your kids and the number one person that should be looking out for them is you not the neighbor down the street. Please don’t take this as me saying all military members are crazed child predators but it only takes one to get to your child.

If anyone has seen to Catch a Predator with Chris Hanson on MSNBC you know that all kinds of people take the bait when presented with a young girl or boy online that says they are home alone. I have seen Rabbi’s, school teachers, school bus drivers and many many more. I can’t stress enough just protect your kids.

Here are some clips from To Catch a Predator if you have not seen it…

Find out who is living around you Family Watchdog (I personally check out every new place I move to you can never be to informed and its free)

That is so true.

This is a really good article. My husband is in the Navy, and in a few years, we will be living on a base. you're right- you can never be too careful when it comes to this stuff.
