Prop 19 California Polls

So normally I am not all into politics and all of that. But today is election day so it seems fitting that I should talk about the one thing that is firing everyone up especially here in California where I live. Prop 19! Do you know what Prop 19 is? Well Prop 19 if approved, will legalize various marijuana-related activities, allow local governments to regulate these activities, permit local governments to impose and collect marijuana-related fees and taxes, and authorize various criminal and civil penalties.

So my question to you all is how do you feel about that?

No on Prop 19! It ain't legalization, it's all about control and commercialization

Hmmmm...I don't know what the politics behind it are, and I don't live in Cali, but I would think it would be a good thing to step closer to legalization. I believe people are going to do it anyway, and the most legal drugs, prescription and alcohol, when abused, cause many, many more deaths and harm than marijuana. I can't believe alcohol is legal but marijuana isn't.

Just because people will do it anyway doesn't make it ok. Everyone thinks it's not harmful. I've seen how it can ruin lives, marriages and jobs firsthand because it can be addictive. Don't be fooled into thinking just because you are a casual user or know someone who is then it isn't like that.

For my childrens and future grandchildrens sake I would vote NO if I lived in California.

Regulating and collecting taxes! The government is all about money is it? I do agree with the first commenter. It is all about control and more money in their pockets.

I'm so sad this didn't get passed. As a resident of Cali I first hand know many users of the drug. Just like alcohol there are some who can't control themselves and others that are in complete control. I think most people are worried that if it were to become legal that would mean that people who go crazy and be stoned all the time. It's true that many of the people who act that way now, will still act that way. But those who are recreational users will continue to be recreational responsible users.

I know that the money generated from the sales and the tax on it would have greatly helped our debt in the state and would have prevented programs from being further cut or prevent higher tax rates on other items.

I wish we had more open minded voters out there that could see that just like alcohol, just like a gun, the item is only has bad as the user. The user has control.

I have to say I think that the usage of it wouldn't have changed much but still don't think I would have felt okay with it being passed. I do understand the debt that California is in I am a temporary resident here and have seen the troubles this state is in but I don't feel like passing this would have things any better. I think that the government seriously needs to asses how it is spending its money before it starts trying to make illegal drugs legal just for monetary gain. Passing this law would have been a band aid to a much bigger issue of mismanaged funds.
