Pregnant Barbie: You be the Judge

I was sitting around like I normally do thinking back of random things from childhood and my teen years and I the thought of pregnant Barbie popped into my head. Yes a pregnant Barbie. I thought if I remembered that others may remember it as well. To my surprise no one had even heard of it. At first I thought I was crazy but I thought the internet has it all so I did a search and I found it.

Mattel had the great idea to give Barbie a friend by the name of Midge who came fully equipped with a baby in her tummy. Your daughter could snap the tummy off and right there in the belly shell was a baby and then instantly Midge would be skinny as a stick again. I seriously wish that I could have snapped off my stomach and pulled Daylan out and threw the extra away and been back to a size 3 but I wasn’t so lucky.

Okay so by now your thinking I have to see this doll well here it is….

Now if you try to find this doll you will have a very difficult time finding it because it was pulled off the shelf in 2002 only weeks before Christmas. Here is my question to you all…

Would you buy your daughters a pregnant friend of Barbie?

Now Mattel didn’t stop with Midge they also created a Barbie that came with a dog that pooped. Now days there are tons of dolls that poop and pee but there aren’t any that eat their own dropping but Barbie’s dog Tanner poops and then Barbie picks them up and feeds them back to Tanner where he can then poop them out again. I am seriously thinking to myself what in the world is Mattel’s thinking.

This one is still on the shelves so if you want to buy your girls a poop eating dog have at it.

Now this one isn’t a Mattel item but a set of plush toys that go by the name of Pee and Poop. The company that makes these are based out of Stockholm, Sweden. I have to say that I am not to fond of giving my child feces to play with but hey some parents may be into it. Check out the pics here and just so you know you can still buy this item if you want your child’s new best friend to be pee and poop.

Are there any toys out there that you are saying no way no how will my child have this or a toy from the past that made you say what were they thinking?

The feeding the dog poop Barbie scares me but I wouldn't mind a pregnant Barbie because my sister and I used to use tissues and tape to make our Barbie's pregnant all the time. Of course, I am a little weird. ;)

LOL...we are all a little weird. Yeah pooping dog is something else. The droppings look like brown tic tacs.

I remember the pregnant Barbie.
There are a few listed on Ebay--anywhere from $88-99!! Could go even higher.
I think one of the worst toys ever to come out, was in the early 70s, when we had "Clackers".
2 solid hard acrylic 2" marbles, joined by a string and finger loop, and the point was to gather momentum until the balls "clacked" against each other. I knew of someone that got hurt when they shattered. Many kids got hit in the head. Dangerous!!

pippirose that sounds dangerous. I could only imagine getting knocked in the head with a marble. I sometimes wonder what toy creators are thinking when they make this cray stuff.

haha, wow, had no idea there was such as a thing as a pregnant barbie. i don't think kids would have much fun. the pooping dog toy is funny too, why make a toy out of a chore so many of us hate?!?! sigh...

When I read 'pregnant Barbie' I immediately remembered seeing it in a store at some point in my adulthood. (There was only Malibu Barbie & her sister Growing Up Skipper, who grew breasts when you twisted her arm, when I was kid) I didn't realize they were not making her anymore. My BFF's daughter has the dog pooping Barbie and we never laughed as hard as we did when she got it for Xmas from grandma. Why? Why would anyone buy it? Why would anyone make it?

That is a toy I wouldn't buy for my daughter. I don't like the message at all. I wouldn't want anyone buying it for my girls either. WOW.

Stopping by to say hi and I am a new follower.
Have a great day.

Making your Barbie pregnant with a tissue is one thing, maybe because you knew a pregnant woman. But being able to take a baby out of a woman's belly is another thing. It is misleading. It is just so wrong. There is enough self image wrongness about Barbies. Ugh. I am just irritated. Good thing I have two boys.

Ugh, I clicked on that first video, and that man made me want to kill something. Preferably him. I've never seen anything quite that annoying before...

Ok, so I have to add this. For a more-than-slightly ironic twist, here is what is showing up on your sidebar while I am writing this:

Helena I just looked at the screenshot thats crazy but its the ads that come up on their own not ones that I actually pick out or am associated with. Kinda like Adsense just puts certain ads on you site when you ad their code. But I did find it kind of funny that is was right on the side of the comment about Barbie and self image wrongness.

I remember those! I also remember pediatrician barbie with the twins and wondered where the mom was.

I don't have a daughter, but if I did, I don't think I'd let her have Bratz. I don't like the message they send.

Oh man! I can't believe that I don't remember the pregnant barbie. That was a definite fail!! The one toy that I will NOT be buying my daughter is the breastfeeding baby doll. I understand the reasoning for developing the doll (to teach kids that breastfeeding is ok), but I'm not okay with my daughter pulling up her shirt to breastfeed a doll.

Danielle said...

OMG...You have got to be kidding me Chanel they did not make a breastfeeding baby doll. Where have I been I have never even heard of this. Now I gotta go look it up. That is a major fail of a product.
