I am sure you mommies out here know what the Birthday Party Shuffle is it’s the crazy amount of invitations that your child receives from school from all the kids in his class throughout the year. When my son was much younger this was not at all an issue but as he and his classmates get older the birthday party invitations come rolling in.
Sometimes I feel as though I have been put on a permanent mailing list. I know that it is important for kids to establish relationships with their peers in and out of class but man one can seriously go broke if they RSVP to every single part their child is invited too.
Personally I try to attend the parties that I think my son will enjoy the most based on the kids that he talks about when he comes home. If there are particular kids that he is always talking about when he gets home from school those are the parties that we attend me because obviously those are the kids in his class that he is most connected to.
There are many good things about attending the birthday parties of kids in your child’s class. It actually gives you a chance to interact with the parents and even make a few new friends in the process and there is nothing wrong with that.
I do suggest however if you are living paycheck to paycheck or are experiencing any financial hardship respectfully decline some of those invitations. Don’t go broke trying to make friends for you and your child because in the end it’s not as important as you think and anyway kids have a birthday every single year another one will come around for you to attend.
